The Frog-Mouth Helmet

The Frog-mouth helmet was a special type of helmet used by knights in the 15th century, mostly for jousting. It got its funny name because the front opening looked like a frog’s open mouth!

This helmet had a very narrow eye slit and was shaped to protect the face from wooden lances during jousts. It was super strong but not great for moving around or seeing clearly.

Knights only wore the Frog-mouth helmet in tournaments, not in real battles. They often needed help putting it on and taking it off because it was so big and heavy!

Even though it wasn’t practical for war, this helmet was perfect for jousting and became a symbol of knightly sports and medieval tournaments.
